Sculpture Gardens

The Wave Wall

The front Wave Wall was started in 2009.  The second half on the western side of the property was started in 2013.

We intend that this wall will extend along the entire front of the proerty.  At present our cottage sits between these two walls.

However, when Castle Phoenix is finished we are required to remove the cottage.

The Wave Wall has numerous circular gardens attached on the inner side.  Other features are seats, a pond, a pumphouse and water gardens.

The seats will have flower mosaics on them which will give each it's name.  I am working on the Lilium Seat.

The Courtyard

The Courtyard was started in 2010.  It started life as a muddy drain and now is my favourite part of the garden.

After we sorted out the drainage and put down road base, we laid out the meandering curving walls with bricks.

The walls had to be rendered on each side -  the inner to prevent roots from bursting the brickwork apart and the outer for a good mosaic surface.

The garden evolved as we built it.  A mini wave wall was built to echo the front wall.  An idea for an archway for a clematis turned into a sculptural piece in its' own right.

The courtyard leads to a viewing area over our rivulet.

At the end of the Courtyard we have curving steps which will have a waterlily pond theme mosaic.

The Paintdrip Garden

The Paintdrip Garden was started in 2010.  The idea started in 2009 as a paintdrip trickling down a bank using yellow pansies.  It worked beautifully until the weeds invaded my pansies.  We then began forming the paintdrips out of brick.

This wall is connects the more formal front Wave Wall with the meandering Courtyard.

Recently we have conducted workshops to make a start on the yellow mosaic which will replace my pansies.

The mosaic, although all yellow, will have a lot of variety.  There are three light yellows for the top, five for the front and four deeper yellows for the lower part.

Francis quickly drew a curly vine shape that will also be yellow.
